About: Davis Mountains Fitness & Training Camp (DMFTC)The Davis Mountains Fitness & Training Camp is designed for those who have a desire to participate in physical activity and experience new challenges. Whether you are wanting to start a new fitness regimen or you are seeking a program to enhance your training, camp will provide you with various choices and an experienced staff to meet your goals.
HistoryIn 1980, Jack Jennings ventured out West and created a camp for runners called the Davis Mountains Running Camp. Within a few years other activities were introduced to the curriculum and in 1984, the name changed to Davis Mountains Fitness & Training Camp. A year later a nonprofit corporation was formed to ensure continuity in purpose, programs and organization. Activities at Camp continue to evolve as new interests emerge.
SettingCamp is held at the Prude Ranch, located approximately six miles west of Fort Davis on Highway 118. Fort Davis has a population of approximately 1,050 and will remind you of the old West town, before the appearance of mega malls and traffic jams. There are no theme parks, stop lights or theaters. At an elevation of 5,050 feet, Fort Davis is the highest town in the state.
